MOVING TO PUERTO VALLARTA TIPS, EMERGENCY PLAN & INFORMATION

You’re moving to Puerto Vallarta and it’s an exciting time. Here are a few things that will make life easier, and more organized in case something unexpected happens. No one likes to think about emergences or worse. Having everything organized gives us piece of mind, and therefore less stress.

Create a emergency file.

It’s important to have a Emergency file ready and records. Designate a place in your home to keep it all drawer, a file cabinet, a closet shelf —and tell someone where that place is. Make sure that same person can access it. Remember to update them regularly.  Outdated information is as useless as no information at all.

What to put in my emergency file?

Emergency Contacts- Compile a comprehensive list of emergency contacts, both local and international—names, emails, phone numbers, relationship to you.  Keep this list updated and give a copy to a trusted friend or neighbor.

Medications & Doctors info - Compile a list of your meds by name and dosage, and contact info for all your doctor(s), both local and international.

Insurance info- List your blood type, any allergies, and include a copy of your insurance information.  Keep the list updated and give a copy to a trusted friend or neighbor.

Medical History- List your blood type, any allergies, important medical information, medical history. Make sure to include all immunization records. Make sure you check that you have all the up-to-date vaccines you need. Ask your doctor and/or check CDC here https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/list

Pets- If you have pets, designate a trusted friend to care for them if you are unable to do so—and let that friend know they are your designated caregiver.  Compile a list of these caregivers, their contact info, your vet’s name and contact info, any meds your pets are taking, and any other necessary things to know about your babies.

Escritura- If you’re a homeowner, make a copy of the first few pages of your escritura and add this to your emergency file.

Legal information- any important legal information they may need, Your will ect.

Create a emergency card.

In the case of an emergency, it makes everything much easier if you have all your important information compiled in one place. We suggest in addition to your file also create a card. Keep it in your wallet or purse.

  • Medication allergies and a list of medications you take.

  • Blood type.

  • Emergency contact information (preferably a blood relative). Include name, relationship, phone number, address, and email address.

  • Insurance information

  • Health or medical issues

Register with your consulate.

In an emergency, they will have your back. Keep this information somewhere in your place. Incase you ever need it.

Access to your home.

Access to your home.

Make sure that someone has access to your home. Some condos ask that owners provide door keys; if you are incapacitated, It’s important that someone can enter to assist you. Get need paperwork or funds. The police are not allowed to do so until a court order has been issued—do you really want to wait that long? If you live alone, make a pact with a friend to check on each other regularly.

Record of all Passwords.

Give a trusted friend or family member a copy of all passwords. Including banking, social account and your phone. These may need to be accessed in an emergency. This should include- social media, banking, investments, any online banking, ect.  In the event of a death or situation your incapacitated your family might need this.

Activate Find my iPhone.

This might save your life. Having it or a similar tracking program activated is a great security to have turned on in case of an accident ect.

Decide who you want to make medical decisions for you.

Or in case of death pick up your remains from the funeral home.

Keep in mind, the only people that can are blood relatives, (legally). If you DO NOT want your blood relative(s) to handle this or be involved, then there is an Affidavit that must be notarized and filed. We suggest you contact Pam Thompson is for help with this.
